Activity Designing a Flyer

Q Chapter Seven Activity Background You work for the U.S. Network for Education Information (USNEI), an office in the U.S. Department of Education. The USNEI provides information for international students and professionals who want to study in the U.S., as well as for U.S. students who want to study in other countries. Your supervisor, Sonya, has asked you to help her with a project. “What I’d like you to do,” she says, “is to work up a design for a one-page flyer for international students who are interested in graduate school in the U.S. The subject is standardized tests they’ll have to take. I’ve got the information, but it’s in a Word Processing document.” 1. Preview the concepts discussed in chapter 7, including page layout, columns, typography, and design of headings. 2. Review Doc. 7.1 and consider what the best organization might be for this information. 3. Send your brief ideas (one or two para.) to the drop box, or be prepared to discuss your ideas in class. Either way will receive extra credit. NOTE: You do NOT have to design a flyer. Instead, invent some ideas to create one.

The flyer could be begun by informing the students about the design and structure of the standardized tests conducted by the U.S. education system to shortlist candidates. There will be online as well as face-to-face tests for every interested candidate for graduating from the U.S. The types of subjects covered in these tests will be informed to the students. There will be other types of tests conducted to understand whether the interested candidates are proficient in speaking, writing and communicating in the English language or not.
